We would like to tell a small history about the origin of Springfield 1911A1 from its original version 1911 or popularly known as M1911. M1911 was a single action, semi automatic handgun, built in for the .45 ACP cartridges. It was designed by John Browning. It was used in WW I, WW II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, and M1911A1 in the Vietnam era. US procured around 2.7 million M1911 and M1911A1 pistols during its service life. The M1911 is the most well known John Browning's design to use the short recoil principle in its basic design, that become the eminent type of nearly all modern pistols. Experiences of WW I led to some more external changes, which were completed in the year 1924 for Springfield 1911A1.
The new version received a modified type classification as Springfield M1911A1. These minor changes were made to the original design. Cutouts in the frame which is behind the trigger, a curved mainspring housing, a wider front sight, longer grip safety spur, a longer spur on the thumb safety, simplified grip checkering and a shorter trigger. In case you are unfamiliar with the design of the previous model then might not be able to tell the difference between the two versions of Springfield 1911A at first look. No internal changes were made in the design. By the early 1990s, most Springfield M1911A1s had been replaced by the M9, though many remain in use by special units. The US Marine Corps resisted the change over, and they even able to win the right to continue use of the Springfield M1911A1, as did many smaller special groups within the armed forces. The Springfield M1911A1 design is favored by a large number of police teams throughout the US. Many military and law enforcement organizations in the US continue to use Springfield M1911A1 pistols because they favor the stopping power of the .45 cartridge and the superior handling of the weapon in close fighting.
