I understand. I've cut back my toy budget quite a bit recently as well. My wife and are looking at getting a much larger house for the family. Good luck with the new house Fred. |

Unfortunately, not a good time to buy. Wish I had a buyer for mine. Can't buy another until I sell this one, which we've definitely outgrown. |

There is a home on the other side of the lake that's been on the market of almost 18 months. Not many buyers when your asking $1.9 million. "When Determined To Survive, Leave Nothing To Chance" |

Well, I'm certainly not anywhere near that neighborhood. I'd settle for 10% of that though, if anyone is looking to move to Hurricane Alley, I mean Florida. My last comment was in error. I meant to say "not a good time to sell." |

Lake homes in Minnesota go for a premium. When this place was built eight to ten years ago the housing market was at an all time high. The owner comes in and bought a $350K home and demolished it. I could hardly believe it. Then they constructed a huge resort home in it's place. The owner arrives in by float plane from the cities about once a month, sometimes less. They throw wild parties, loud music, speeding around on personal watercraft in summer or snowmobiles in winter. They shoot fireworks all night long. Otherwise, the place sits vacant for weeks at a time. For years, there where only a few homes on the lake. Then the highway was improved. Now many of the homes around me are worth $700K and up. The lake lots alone are selling for over $100K - that's just the property to build on. I was lucky to have built my home in 1984 for about $280K. I have done ok, and my home has doubled in value. I built here to get away from all that and high taxes. Actually my property taxes sky rocketed to $4,000 a year. That's when I marched into Town Hall and complained. Either it was my well known reputation or my well prepared argument. Perhaps a little of both - they reduced it. "When Determined To Survive, Leave Nothing To Chance" |

Wow General. Care to come to Florida and represent me in my fight to reduce my property taxes? If I may ask, what was the basis for your argument? It's not often that complaints about property taxes are greeted with much more than a "too bad, pay me" statement, so you must have presented a legitimate case. |

My argument was that I was being taxed at 120% of the value. During the current market I could never received that amount for my home. Home values have dropped at least 20% and the city has always maintained that all property assessed taxes was tagged at 98% of a homes value. Homes all around where being sold at lesser amounts than what the city was assessing them. I insisted that was unfair and the clerk agreed. They sent a city assessor out and about thirty days later I got a letter stating that my property tax was being reduced. "When Determined To Survive, Leave Nothing To Chance" |

Thanks General. Valid argument. That's not the case in my city. We're just being raped by the millage rate. |

Not a good time to sell a house, but a great time to buy, either a gun or a house. |

I got cut off... Anyway, property values are down, but firearms are stable. With the election coming up; it's just a matter of time before they jump through the roof. Not that anyone has the extra cash to invest, but if they did; it would pay off.... |
