First Lt Garand,

No. The only shorter .38 Spl cartridge would be to a wad cutter round. Please provide a model number and describe the revolver in more detail. I am concerned that your friend may have a .32 Caliber revolver. List all the barrel stampings and any other information pertaining to this firearm. I will attempt to help.

Does the revolver look like this one?

The .38 S&W CTG is indeed shorter then the .38 Special. Also 38 S&W CTG bores are .360 as opposed to the Special at .356-.358. 38 S&W CTG only interchanges with the .38 Colt New Police, which no one has manufactured in decades. The .38 S&W CTG came out some years prior to the .38 Spl. It was a good little round. It was popular in Britten after WW-II. Good luck to your friend.

I remember the story of the origen of the .357 mag. How they had to make it longer because some people tried firing it out of .38's. Cant recall if it was a .38 or .38 spl., but I know I cant get a .357 mag into any of my .38's, I tried to with six of them just to make sure. the cylinder won't shut. Nor will a 9mm seat in the cylinder of a .38 spl. Still think it's a British .38 200
