Fred, the future is not looking bright. Our country's leadership has been ridiculously lacking in recent history. Most of these people couldn't even run a successful business if they tried. I suggest we start doing a lot of praying, because that is all that will save this country.

George Washington, The Father Of Our Country - A Revolutionist.

By the very definition - The word revolution:
An overthrow thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed. A sudden marked change in something. A course, as if in a circuit, back to a starting point. A turning round or rotating. A cycle of events in time or a recurring period of time.

Gentleman, an interesting time we live...

December 21, 2012 is the last date recorded on the Mayan calender, and many believe that will be the end of life as we know it on earth. Personally, I think God will end things when he's ready. No need to buy into any prophecies.

I understand some Native American Tribes have a similar time table.
I read about 12 books a year. Mostly Science fiction. When people talk about the end of life as we know it, I am reminded of a great book by Arthur C. Clark. Its called 'THE HAMMER OF GOD'.

Not knowing what you like to read it's hard to say. In '92 Arthur C. Clarke wrote a book about the consequences of a collision between Earth and an asteroid. He capitalized on the scientific discovery of the Swift-Tuttle comet and trajectory simulations that indicate a very strong possibility of it impacting Earth August 14, 2126. Fortunately for you and I, we won't have to worry if the mathematics are correct. Clarke decided to expound upon it. The HAMMER OF GOD is a good read, perhaps not Clarke's best work. He speculates on what the world will be like in the future. It’s one of his a shortest novels. I liked his books 2010, ROMA and ROMA II better however. Other Authors & Books that I might suggest are SOLO by Robert Mason, SPHERE by Michael Crichton, ANGLES & DEMONS by Dan Brown. Then there is the classic A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH by Jules Verne. Those are a few really good ones that come quickly to mind. Just a side note, Angles & Demons was written before the Da Vinci Code and in my humble opinion, Hollywood made the wrong book into a movie. Da Vinci Code truly pales in comparison to Brown's book of Robert Langdon's first adventure in Angles & Demons.

I've heard quite a bit about Angels & Demons, but haven't sat down to read it yet. Most of the time, I like to read non-fiction, but I do like sci-fi stuff too. Mostly the sci fi books that I like are closer to reality, or possible future reality. Have any of you read the book, "Crossing the Rubicon"? The author, Michael C. Ruppert, was a narcotics detective before he decided to take on informing the public. I read the book in '03, and since have come to realize that a lot of the information in the book has come to pass. If you're not ready to read something that questions everything, including our country's role in the world's problems, then you may want to pass on this one. It's definitely worth a look as it will shed some light on current events, and our possible future.

The North American Union is a scary thought. Before, when our dollar was so much stronger than everyone else's, I would have said no way they're planning on that. Now that the Canadian dollar is stronger than ours, I wouldn't say it's out of the picture. If you look at Ron Paul's website, he goes into detail about the plan. I guess it starts with this proposed highway from Mexico to Canada that is routed through Texas. The security for this highway is supposed to be controlled by Mexico, Canada and the US, which would be a huge blow to our sovereignty (spelling?).

Gas is expensive because there isn't much of it left. The price will continue to rise as a means of slowing consumption. It's simple supply and demand really. We (all people) have passed our Peak Oil production, which simply stated means that we don't produce as much oil as we used to, yet the demand continues to grow as the population grows. The best we can hope for is the development of alternative sources of energy. It may be too late though, as the infrastructure that would be necessary to supply the world would be costly and take far too long to develop. We may be on the verge of some very rough times. Stock up on water, canned foods and ammo friends. Of course I could just be paranoid, but as they say, "chance favors the prepared mind."

I seen on television, the so called experts, say we only have enough petro for world comsumpion to last another 60 yrs, the other experts said 80 yrs. whats in the 20 yr difference? How much stock should we really put into this stuff? Global warming, running out of oil, and astroids on the final collision course? Today, I went to work, came home and cut my grass, went to my brother Kevin's house and cut his grass, went to my brother Cliff's house and cut his grass (at 40, I'm still the little brother-smile). Then I took some pictures of my fire arms for a post. Drank some beer and played the guitars with a couple of my brothers. Tonight I bid my children goodnight and sat here in my favorite chair to talk to you. If the world ended right now, it's a good time, if hell is on the way and they're looking for a fight; then I have plenty to fight for!!! We will survive, or die trying! Or as my grand dad used to say; "live with it, or die of it"!!!

60 years is a generous estimate. I've read and seen estimates closer to 15-20 years. Population growth, and the industrialization of China and India are the main factors in the large range you're seeing. Google "Peak Oil" and see what you come up with. Read and make up your own mind. I for one, have decided it's out of my hands and in God's. The best I can hope for is the salvation of my friends and loved ones.

You can certainly say that again General. I'm in my early 30's, so I have to wonder if this is any different than previous generations' worries. Perhaps it's just a ploy to convince us that we should be happy to only be paying $4.00 a gallon for gas.
