I currently reside in Kamifornia, what is the cost for an FFL and is it worth it if I only want to purchase guns for my own use?

I only wish you much luck getting that FFL in California. I say this becasue I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for nealy 40 years and I quit collecting firarms becasuse of their anti-gun attitude. That state is only one of 5 that honors NO other carry permits and as you probably know you have to store your home defense pistol in a locked box unloaded and then out of sight of any children. If anyone broke into your home in the middle of the night you would have to be Houdini to wake up unlock your gun box or safe find the ammo and load your weapon and then defend your self. Any way California is tough to get any kind of permit not mentioning the cost. If Arnold and his Hollywood bunch had their way we would all be disarmed. I guess that would make them feel more safe where only the bad guys had the guns. I never applied for a FFL but, I just know the process of owning a gun in California and it is a hassle in comparison to where I live now, Alabama. I walk into a gun shop or show and fill out the form, and walk out within the hour with my new gun. That is the way it was meant to be, not like California's way. I wish you the best of luck for your endevour.

Lieutenant Colonel Bullseye is correct. It is very difficult in the liberal States to obtain a FFL. To the best of my knowledge, in other States, if you pass the background check, fulfill the requirements and paid the initial application fee you get a Federal Firearm License. FFL, is a license that enables an individual to engage in the sale and manufacture of firearms, ammunition or the interstate sale of firearms. To engage in the mentioned activities it has been a legal requirement in the United States since the Gun Control Act of 1968. You must apply for a FFL on a ATF Form, I think it’s number 7. Not sure about that. There are many types of licenses available. The Licenses are valid for three years, and are non-transferable. Please go to this site for more information. It will have the current fees.

The Gun Control Act, was amended by The Firearms Owners` Protection Act of 1986 and talks about eligibility requirements to obtain a license. When I built my M16A1CAR mated to a Bushmaster lower receiver. I had to apply for a ATF license and provide a compliance form. This was due to it’s short threaded 11.5-inch barrel.
