All Armed Forces personnel are authorized to possess assault weapons in KAMIFORNIA, all you have to do is contact the Dept. of Justice in CA and send in a copy of your orders and register your assault weapons to get issued an assault weapons permit... It cost $76. However, you must do this before you get to CA.

Captian Mendozausp, I am confused at where your obtaining this information. I just looked up the California Law pertaining to the ownership of assault type firearms and this is what I found. Please forward any supporting documentation regarding the change in current California law. I would suggest that returning military personal to check into this post prior to any registering. I am not advocating the infraction of ANY firearm laws, I just feel we should be careful when we are asked to voluntary register ANYTHING! Perhaps I am mistaken. All I am saying is if the $76 permit is all that is required to own and posses a firearm of this type than it is what what it is...

CHAPTER 2.3. ROBERTI-ROOS ASSAULT WEAPONS CONTROL ACT OF 1989
ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
12275. This chapter shall be known as the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 Regulation Act of 2004.
12275.5. (a) The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the proliferation and use of assault weapons poses a threat to the health, safety, and security of all citizens of this state. The Legislature has restricted the assault weapons specified in Section 12276 based upon finding that each firearm has such a high rate of fire and capacity for firepower that its function as a legitimate sports or recreational firearm is substantially outweighed by the danger that it can be used to kill and injure human beings. It is the intent of the Legislature in enacting this chapter to place restrictions on the use of assault weapons and to establish a registration and permit procedure for their lawful sale and possession. It is not, however, the intent of the Legislature by this chapter to place restrictions on the use of those weapons which are primarily designed and intended for hunting, target practice, or other legitimate sports or recreational activities.
(b) The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the proliferation and use rifles, as defined in Section 12278, poses a clear and present terrorist threat to the health, safety, and security of all residents of, and visitors to, this state, based upon findings that those firearms have such a high capacity for long distance and highly destructive firepower that they pose an unacceptable risk to the death and serious injury of human beings, destruction or serious damage of vital public and private buildings, civilian, police and military vehicles, power generation and transmission facilities, petrochemical production and storage facilities, and transportation infrastructure. It is the intent of the Legislature in enacting this chapter to place restrictions on the use of these rifles and to establish a registration and permit procedure for their lawful sale and possession.

look up Penal Code section 12285 (c).. Also, you may call Yolanda Garcia, she works for the California Department of Justice Firearms Division (916) 263-0296.

So, returning Service Personal may 'OWN' and 'POSSESS' assault-type firearms? All they have to do is register them with the State.

Or are you saying, that they are 'authorized' to register their issued service rifles while waiting for deployment?

I am still confused regarding your original post.

I think he means their privately owned weapons, not their service rifles.

If you are on Active Duty and you are getting stationed in California, you can apply for an assault weapons permit. However, you must do this before you get to California. You contact the Dept. Of Justice Firearms Division in CA and you fillout the application ($76), in about 2 weeks you will get your assault weapons permit to transport and posses privetely own assault weapons while on Active Duty stationed in CA. I submitted a contact number above for anyone to call to get the information from the horses mouth... I really hope that Servicemembers that are getting stationed in Kamifornia take advantage of this great oportunity given that california is so anti gun... Hopefully I made myself a lil more clear...
