ok here's the deal ..... I want to break a hole in my basement floor and store 2 shotguns and a SKS and a bunch of ammo in there then seal it back up ! hole will be approximately 10 feet below ground level and I live in PA ... what do I need to do ? I plan on having them in some sort of case etc etc just not laying them on the dirt ......I wont need these guns to be ready to go when dug up so quick cleaning wont be an issue .... im thinking some heavy grease i.e. cosmoline or something ....... what are your thoughts ??? now also keep in mind these are not collector guns they are just standard moss 500 ..... Stevens model 311 e double barrel and a yugo SKS thanks !!....... |

Hey bravo30 I have had the same question about storage underground. I would like to add one more item to your list of storage questions. I am looking for a container that will hold a rifle the size of an AK47 and be water tight. I know that I can wrap the guns in storage waterproof wrap, but, still would like to have a watertight container. I have found many containers, but, they are plastic and may not last underground for very long. |

Ok try this idea.... Fridges and freezers are made of coated aluminium or stainless steel, plastic & polystyrene. so are coolers (esky's). Properly prepared metal can last for centuries underground and most simple plastics need thousands of years to decompose....See where i'm going with this? Steel swords with leather wraps have been found dating back 2000 years buried in peat & marsh in old forgotten graves. |

Try 4" pvc pipe, you wont need to remove anything and then seal and cap. Then label them with indelable ink so you know which gun is in each container. |
