Howdy all, I have a 270. win that I use now for white tail hunting. After reading a bunch of differnt forums along w/ this one I think i really want to get a 308 win. I want to have a nice rifle for both hunting and long range target shooting (say up to 500yrds). The 308 seems to be a really popular pick for its long range shooting and game taking power, as well as good variety on bullet selection. Im also building myself a reloading bench now and am getting reloading equipment "for christmas". So Im looking for suggestions on good longe range shooting 308, I know the remington 700 and the savage 10fp seem to get a lot of votes. Any comments on either and also looking for other suggestions? I was hoping to spend around $500 for just the gun. Thanks, jake |

Welcome aboard Garetjax! I recently bought an FN Patrol Bolt Rifle chambered in .308. I really like it. I haven't gotten it fully dialed in for long range shooting, but I'm sure that with Match Grade ammo and the right glass, that it will shoot accurately out to 600 yards. I payed just under $800.00 for this rifle, barely used, and it came with a bipod and a cheap scope. I plan to upgrade the scope when my budget allows. |
