good day, i am a senior in medical school, and i come from zamboanga city philippines...i am currently assigned to work at the communities up the mountains of my country, where most of the underserved people are found. i am 23 and just recently fired my first gun...it is necessary that we medical students learn to handle guns, as where we work in the communities are rebel infested. i know very little about guns, but have been immediately hooked to them!!! for my first rounds i fired a 22 norinco, and a 22 by the same brand...the latter is a clone of the sig sauer p228. after that i have practiced dry firing, and dismantling, mostly a 9mm taurus. that's about everything i know about guns...and i honestly dont know much. but by joining this group i sure would want to know more, about 9mm hand guns most of all, and the different brands, and everything there is to know about guns, ammo, the different calibers, etc... after i graduate i will be working in the communities to serve my people, and the first thing i am going to do with the first pay check i recieve will be to buy myself the 1st of several guns i want to have...for defense and home use...any suggestions guys as to what to buy? by the way, i am a pretty big guy, i stand six feet tall, am pretty muscular, so i guess i could handle guns with strong recoil...thanks alot guys!

jemuel cristobal, welcome to R&G's.  Do you have access to different kinds of handguns?  Of course that would be nice so, you could have your pick of the right kind of gun that you should carry in the environment that you work in, for self defense and home defense.  The environment that you spend your time in is very much different than most of us in the average U.S. city. Also, what about the cost of guns in the Phillipines? First off, purchase a gun that the parts and repairs are standard and easy to get. For instance a 1911 45ACP. You can purchase a Commander lightweight size 1911 with a four and a quarter inch barrel. It is light and the 45ACP hollow point is deadly. A Glock of your choice would also be a very good choice. Good to hear from you.
