Definetley America, second choice would be Germany. Not to put down the other nations and some of the great weaponry they had. You can't beat Thompsons, M1 Garands and Carbines, BARs, 1911s, all of my favorites. Plus the M2

well i wouldn't pick the japanese weapons.they were all very poor quality.the russians had some good weapons.on the eastern front many german soldiers went out of there way to get hold of the russian machine guns marshal zuchov's troops were carrying.the german weopons were very well made but were of a smaller caliber.the mg 42 could fire 1500 rounds per minute and sounded like a band saw when fired they were good infantry weopons but used excessive ammunition and when the germans adapted them to aircraft and armored vehicles they were deffinatley underpowered.in all i would agree that the american arms as a whole were probably better.many allied nations envolved in that war carried american arms including the british.however ther were a few american weopons that were not up to par.the grease gun was crap the m1 carine was a good weapon to fire but used a substandard round they carried this weopon over into the korean war and found that paticular round was not pinatrating into the thick chinese quilted uniforms the m1 carbine was an early attempt to use a smaller calibre round for assault purpose's.in all i like the american weapons best.there were some very good weapons from other nations the assault rifle the germans developed at the end of the war was exceptional for the time.many people credit that design for inspireing the ak-47 three years later.

Did the French even have guns? Guess the didn't get used anyway. I'd take the M1 Garand , the Thompson, and the M1911.

for seriously upsetting someones day, and being a Brit, i'm biased. But i would pick the mk2 Bren Gun, for something nice to look at pistol wise, i would opt for the artillery model Luger.

The bren gun was pretty cool but i'm not big on the top feed magazine

you could always use a 30 rnd sraight magazine of the later type, or even better still 20 rnd FN mags. they work well with the .303 ammunition and there is loads still kicking about, plus they fit in your pockets easier than conventional bren mags.

Hi Fred, the sten gets my vote. Granny used to keep one in the pantry in case the Germans strayed from the masterplan and tried to invade Britain. I found it still hanging on the nail behind the door when we cleared out her place after she died, that went straight into the landrover. funnily enough it rattles just like the landy as well, and then bits fall off it at the worst possible time, just like the lan.... well i think you get the picture.
haven't seen a welrod for ages, thought they were only experimental, although the resistence used them for asassinations quite a bit.

I WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY. CHECKED OUT 04 RANG ROVER HSE WITH 31,000 MI. $46.000 , LR 2 AND LR 3 BRAND KNEW 35.000 & 49.000 ISH . I HAD 05 LR3 FOR ABOUT 2WKS , WHILE MY DISCOVERY WAS GETTIN FIXED. THEN I PUT THE OTHER DISCOVERY IN THE SHOP AND THEY LET ME KEEP IT FOR ANOTHER WEAK. IT WAS NICE. BUT WAY TO MANY BUTTONS TO PLAY WITH . I CANT SEE SOMTHING THAT ELECTRICAL GOING IN WATER.( SHORT OUT)THERE GOES 50,000. THE DEFENDER IS COOL BUT THEY NO LONGER BRING THEM HEAR DO TO AIR BAGS OR THE LACK OF.

Pity about the Defender import ban, I never drive mine fast enough to cause any damage if i crash. Never fond of the disco 3, like you said, too many buttons to push. Range rover HSE sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you still hanker after it in a fortnights time i suggest you treat yourself...
I'll be off to Prague Tomorrow, more work, will be out of touch for a couple of months if there's no problems. Be in touch on my return.

I'd forgotten about that one...As I understand it, German soldiers would try to recover and use the PPSH from the Russians.

New to the forum...

I also have a Springfield 03 and shoot it regularly at a range here in Florida...at least until my shoulder cries "uncle"...was passed down to me by my grandfater who could drop a crow out of the top of a tree from what seemed like a mile. I would love to scope the thing but I don't want to change a piece of history. So I scoped my AR-15 instead....hoora!

M1917 Winchester used by some in the pacific realm. Mine still shoots less than 1' at 100 yards with handloads, but if I could only have 1 rifle it would be the M1.

Garand---- I don't really consider the carbine round a rifle although for less than 50 yards I think it was very capable round.
