charlie i have an interest in finding a deal on good ammo for my ar15.i have heard the russian made ammo was a cheap quality ammo.i was told by a gun shop owner it was a dirty round that fouled a weapon easily.he went as far as to ban it.s use at his facility.i have no first hand knowledge of this ammo but i am curiose about the quality as well.i am looking for a good deal on match grade .223 ammo.

My experience that I had with Wolf Ammo for my 45's was not a pleasant experience. It was filty to use and on top of that, out of a box of 50 I had several duds. When I broke down my guns, they had powder residue in places that I have never had any befpre while using the American made commercial ammo. So, would I use Wolf again. ONLY, if it was the only ammo available and my life was at stake, but, I will not use it by my own choice.

I only use wolf ammo for my AK, since it's all I can get around here. Luckily it's no corrosive and cheap. I had a similiar expierience with my 9mm, it gunked up the gun. The only reason I use for the Ak is because the Ak can take it. I don't know about the Mini 30 though. A cheap ammo supplier I had luck with is Augila(SP?) they make a variety of cartridges pretty cheap.

A few years back I purchased several cases of Wolf 223 ammo, and have had no problems with it at all. At least not in my AR-15's. Had some fouling in my bolt gun, but never any issues that a cleaning every 50 rounds or so didn't cure. I also bought 4 cases of Silver Bear 9mm. Gave my son 2 cases. He never had any trouble in any of his 9's. I had nothing but problems with the remaining 2 cases. At least 25% of them either did not fire, or fired but didn't push the bullet out the barrel. Took me several years to burn them all (couldnt rapid fire, and got very good at field stripping and using a brass rod to shove the bullet out the barrel) My son has used Wolf 9mm before, and other then the afrementioned fouling, he never had any real issues. Guess it's true with anything you buy semi-cheap. You get what you pay for.. I would buy Wolf ammo again, and maybe even Silver Bear, but only in smaller case counts.

Jollyroger, have you used Wolf Ammo a log while in your AK? Just because I had lousy results with the pistol ammo in my 1911, doesn't mean it is all bad. I have been using Russian ammo and have had no problems with it, but, it will not last forever, so, I am always looking for more AK ammo. The gun store had some Wolf 7X62 .39 on sale I may go and buy some this week and try it. Also I will take OldGunNut's advise also. This is what this site is all about.
