I have made up my mind; next weekend I'm getting my Savage 93R17-BV for plinking. My question to you is this...If you could only have one .40 pistol what would it be? I'm leaning towards the Berreta Px4 Storm subcompact or a baby eagle. I really want a DA/SA so the XD and Glock are out. This will mainly be used for the range and obviously home protection.

The Berreta Px4 Storm subcompact will be your best bet, I've trusted a Berreta as my side arm for 1 tour in Iraq, I never had any jams w/ it you will be happy with the Berreta and after all they are the oldest gun makers in the world, if I remember correctly, correct me if I'm wrong.

My wife just purchased a Smith & Wesson M&P Sub Compact .40. She loves it and I have used it at the range when she would let go of it for a little while. It is accurate and fun to shoot. I shot a target at 10 feet, and I was able to shoot a 2 inch group with 7 rounds. Thats good for a carry gun which my wife uses it for. The grip on it is good for those with a small hand, but, one of the magazines has an extender on it to make it very comfortable for those of us with larger hands.

It would have to be my Glock 23, lightly customized (full length s/s guiderod, extended slide lock lever and mag release, Trijicon night sights, ghost 3.5 lb connector)had the square trigger guard rounded (didn't like the look)and the finger groove bumps removed. Hey, it's a tool; make it work for you! It is a great shooter w/over 1,000 rds fired without a single malfunction. Would bet my life on it. Accuracy is fantastic and easy to shoot w/my small to medium sized hands. My constant companion CCW.

My Smith&Wesson M&p .40 has got to be one of the most outstanding pistols I have shot to date

I have to add just one comment from the one I put back in July. I am a 1911 nut, and own and shoot many different sizes of 1911's, but, the Smith & Wesson M&P that my wife carries daily is outstanding. I mentioned before that I occasionally got to shoot it a few rounds, but, last week my wife let go of it so I could really run it through its paces. Was I impressed after shooting my 1911 45 ACP? YES, and YES. I have to say that this M&P is a compact with a 3.5 inch barrel and I really didn't expect it to be very accurate with anything over 25 feet, but, I was wrong and it was very accurate and putting a good pattern of 2.5 inches at 25 feet was ok with me for defensive shooting. I know there are many great carry guns out there, but, my choice if I personally was going to carry a gun everyday would be the S&W M&P. It is light, small, and powerful, and reliable. Am I going to give up my 45, well, I will have give that a thought, but, seriously.

I own a Springfield XD40 and it is clearly the workhorse of my arsenal. I have never had a misfeed in 2000 rounds fired. It's very accurate and very affordable. I bought one of the original XD's released, and they have since added alot of extras that come standard with the pistol. You can't go wrong with this weapon.

I looked at the Beretta Storm and the S&W M&P .40 side by side and went with the M&P .40 and after about 500 rounds through it I couldn't have asked for a better gun! Thank y'all for your input.

I would get an XD. I've had nothing but great success with my XD9 service and XD.45 Tactical.

I had a Glock but hated the dang thing, and I'm not convinced that a .40 is better than a 9MM

Master Sergeant Crown1kans, in my opinion you did exactly what should have been recommended. Narrow your choices down and look at them together. If possible, put a box of ammo through them. However, that is sometime difficult to do. That's the way to locate a sidearm. Congratulations on the M&P .40. I am sure it will serve you well for many years, if not generations to come. Good luck.

I agree with Chaindriven, That Crown1kans from my experience with the S&W M&P .40 you will have a reliable sidearm for a long while. I have the priveledge of taking care of my wifes M&P because we have a deal, when we shoot, which is every week, I will clean her gun if she cooks. She thought that was a great deal. I have shown her how to break her M&P down which is very simple, different for a 1911 guy, but, easy as all get out. I just wanted to make sure that she knew how to break it down and what it looks like inside, because it is her gun that she carries with her CCW permit.

So with fireing quite a few rounds myself, or whenever my wife will let go of it, and cleaning the gun, it stands up the strict scrutiney of a reliable handgun.

I would basically have a 40. caliber of H&k USP or H&k Mark 40. caliber juston my mind to have but an't tryin to tell every1 to get one,we all have differents types of liking a weapon that wewant or even trie or have.all guns are good for something you know

The AR-15 is Gangster.even snipers,
but snipers are the oldest since Revoulutionary War
so snipers made the US.

I have 2 .40 cals, a Daewoo and a Beretta Cougar. They both function well. I like the Daewoo's "triple action" trigger. The Cougar is a better gun but costs a couple hundred more than the Daewoo. I think you just have to handle them all and decide what's best for yourself.

FN's FNP40 is a really nice pistol. I have fired a friend's several times and it has an excellent trigger, is well balanced, and is as accurate as any of the other .40's I've shot. I'd buy one myself, but I prefer single action only.
