I purchased a used Colt M1991A1 Compact, at a gun show in Birmingham, Alabama. It seemed like a very nice small gun, all metal, had the feel of a full size 1911. I knew nothing of this gun at all and asked around the show and I didn't find much information from anyone who had any experience with one. Of course the fellow who was selling it told me it was a great gun, but, could I trust him? But, the price was right, it fit my hand like a good glove and it was in excellent shape, the black finish was like new. So, I purchased it. I took it to the range for the initial testing. Wow, was I amazed, this small 45 ACP handled the recoil just fine for a small frame 45. After shooting nearly 500 rounds through it I have had no problems at all. I have started carrying it and with the leather pancake holster that holds it tight to my body it is easily concealed. I am one happy camper finding a good reliable gun at a show. I own three other 1911's of which one is a compact and I love to shoot all of them, so, I am glad to add another 45 to my collection. |

I bought a 1991 A-1 last year because I wanted a 1911 type gun. The problem was that the huge hand grips were to big for my chubby hands. The dealer suggested the 1991 A-1, and it fit perfectly. I also love this gun, and love to shoot it. It is one of the best variations of the 1911 that I have seen yet. I have even convinced my dad to get his carry permit after using this gun. |
