0300: Uniform pressed, Hat brushed, Seconded last moment to be escort for our local city mayor and Dignitaries from Europe.
Yippee!!! temperature down to about 8 degree celsius, dressed in SD uniform (no thermals here boys) Good thing its dark you cant see me shivering.
0630: Time for 1st service & dawn parade,
by now our teeth are chattering so hard we cant hear the Pde Sgt Major bellowing, somebody screwed up, (hope it wasn't me)
0745: Marched up to R.S.A for breakfast, tryin to roll a smoke, thumbs frozen, steal one from
S/Sgt....( blessed tobacco & coffee laced with rum)
0900: Plenty of coffee in us all (toast, bacon & egg's ??......never heard of it) Thumbs working again ....Chain smoking with Pde Sgt/Maj & firing party
0930: Try to convince O.C. of my incompetence at marching onto cenotaph with him to lay wreaths.
0935: Success... Relegated to escort V.I.P's again.
0940: Parade march past us....(God how long is it? How long do I have to hold the salute)
1045: (Bloody coffee, Bloody speaches, Who's that swaying??.... My hat's to tight, Can't feel top of my head, I want a cigarette,) Padre's a buddy of mine.. offers me forgiveness of sins I'm thinking of... Bastard's trying to make me laugh while in front of Crowd/ O.C./Camera's/ V.I.P's.
1100: Minute gun wakes up the Surviving Vets & Freaks out the civvies.
1115: Been at various stages of attention & stand easy for at least 200 years now, lost contact with feet about 92 years ago....hours?? (damn coffee..)
1130: Back to R.S.A for whiskey and beer,
One person fainted & another came close, Everybody else hurting like hell,
1135: Vow to be sick this time next year.

LOL! And congratulations on surviving another show. I used to march in a State Flags company in the Navy and know exactly what you went through!
By next year you'll be all ready again and the vets will still appreciate it, even if the civvies still don't understand it all.

Mother Nature is a stern teacher who eventually kills all of her students.

the best way I have found to survive that anzac day parade is just to think of what the young men who fought and did not make it home would think of your effort I have done a few (at least15) and the suffering is well worth it that you can bet on for as the statement lays out "they grow not old as we who are left grow old, age dose not wery them nor the years condem, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them." good on you jack135 for doing the right thing you honor them!!!
