For carry and for target. Around 500$ price range. Your suggestions are appreciated.

I would personally recommend the Glock 19 as a carry. They are cheap, accurate and durable. I am sure some other people will have some more recommendations for you Smiling.

For that money I like the Glock, many models and calibers to choose from. Take a look at the "certifed" Sigs, they are "used" but have been refurbished by Sig, a lot more affordable than a new Sig. The Springfield XD seems to be a favorite too on this site. I do not own one but know many who love them. Good luck with your search!

A Glock would be the best bet, but a Sig 226 is always a good choice. Glocks do seem to have more accesories and are usually a little cheaper.

I don't know what you think about the Taurus 9mm's. I have seen many under $500.The one I have (a PT 92) is great. It is a little heavy. I find it a all around great gun.

I know it's been a long time since I bought my Taurus 9mm ($389 in 1989) and it is truly my favorite pistol. I know you can get one for about $500, maybe less if you shop around. It's never failed me (except when I got a case of squibs, but that wasn't the guns fault), it's comfortable, easy to shot, accurate, extremely durable, and even in spite of the wear and scuff marks, still looks good. I would recommend a Taurus to anyone interested in 9mm.

As one that has just done a search for the best 9 mm and 45's avail for the best price, it is a tall order, but atainable. The recommendation for a Glock 19 is a good one, but, one for $500 may be hard to come by. It seems the prices of the good guns on the market are going up each week. But, the Glock is one to look into. I purchased a 9 mm Kahr CW9 for a carry weapon and it was an even $500 brand new. It is light, small and a great carry weapon. I looked at the new Taurus and it was around $550 plus tax. But it was a great feeling gun in my hand. The used 9mm's that I looked at were not bad, and there were a good supply of them, but, the price of a used one verses a new one was something that only the individule can make. You mentioned a Hi Power. Were you talking about the Browning Hi Power or the cheaper model. Because a used 9 mm Browning Hi Power will run you around $600 especially if you find one that is made in Belgium. I have two of them one made in 1969 and one that was manufactured in 1971. Both are accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Plus when you do find your new 9 mm follow lawless101aa's recommendation and do not and I repeat do not use cheap (crappy) ammo as it will foul your weapon even if you clean your gun after every use. Plus you will start having malfunctions and might start blaming your new 9 mm. Good ammo is not cheap, but, is worth the expense in the long run, and will bring many hours of joy shooting. If you are looking for a 9mm for a carry gun it changes what you are looking for. It means one small enough where you can wear it comfortably, a gun you have confidence in, one that you would stake your life on. But, if you are just going to the range and shoot for pleasure only, buy any size that you are comfortable with. A very common choice or model for a fun shooting 9 mm is a 1911 model. They can be a little large for a conceal carry weapon, but, they are a blast to shoot. Good gun hunting 236079

You can buy the S&W MP 9mm pistol easily for around $500.00, with frugal shopping. This pistol is very similar to the Glocks, with some refinements, including the ability to adjust the grip size (thickness). I currently own one in .40 caliber. This new pistol from S&W is a winner. Check out the MP Pistol Forum.

I have owned a few Glocks, since the 80's, and have a lot of respect for brand.

Try Gunbroker.com. There are a lot of quality pistols, there for $500.00 and less. Good luck in your quest. Let us know, what you buy?

Hi 236079, for me, it would be a Glock 19. Small and compact for carry and not to small for IDPA or IPSC production div.

ALL I CAN SAY, TRY A FEW WHAT EVER WORKS THE BEST FOR YOU . IVE HAD THE SIG 228, 226,GLOCK 17,19 THEY ALL HIT!226 TOOK A LITTLE MORE WORK, GLOCKS BOTH HIT NICE , BUT I DO NOT LIKE THE WAY THEY FEEL IN HAND. SIG 228 WAS MY BEST CHOICE ( IF YOU HAVE TO CARRY A 9MM ) 45ACP IS MY CHOICE , 9MM IS A FINE TARGET GUN !
