How did everyone here begin with guns. Self defense, hunting, maybe just target shooting and plinking. I've been shooting ever since I could hold a .22 to my shoulder. My family have hunted as long as I could remember so it was natural for me to gain an interest. |

My father handed me a Ithica single shot 22 lever action rifle, and showed me how to use it. Taught me the safety rules, (gave me several tests). Than a week or so later, handed me a hand full of bullets. I was 6. Been addicted ever since. Did the same thing for my son when he turned 7 or 8. He is now a bigger gun-nut than I am (having a really great government job helps his situation). Also got my wife and several of her friends interested in firearms (they had never fired a gun and thought they were evil, till after they plugged a few holes in some paper targets) I'd rather go hunting with Dick, than driving with Ted: |

Like most of you I received my first 20 guage shotgun when I was 12 years old. I used that three shot Savage to hunt pheasants in the Mid-West until I left for the Air Force. It was there I was introduced to large bore weaponry. I took some years off of hunting, but, had range time. I just got back into colleting pistols recently and my wife now enjoys the sport with me. Like OldGunNut, she didn't care about guns at all, until she fell in love with a Browning Hi Power 9mm and claimed it as hers, so, you know guys I could only do one other thing and that was to find a second Hi Power for myself. But, the time away didn't avert my interest in firearms at all, just strengthened it. What was interesting is none of my other family members cared one bit about guns, but, they sure did eat all the pheasants, quail, rabbit's that were put on the table. |
