You gotta be careful. One of the major problems with sawed off shotguns is that they spread shot TOO much. You can end up striking your intruder with just a few pellets and not knocking him down. The result is a pissed off armed intruder . . . not really an improvement in the tactical situation! I'd like to see patterning tests and load tests before I invested.

Mother Nature is a stern teacher who eventually kills all of her students.

The shotgun shown here has a duckbill barrel or choke. These were used in vietnam and arent cery popular today. most of the time they are looked at as a novelty. Sawed off shotguns do spread shot fast, but not in the manner cogito described. I have a remington short barrelled 870 and thatis perfect for cqb. if youre shooting at lengths no more than a common room the shot wont spread more than about 13-14 inches at the very most. Also if you only hit him but with a few pellets, those pellets(assuming youre using 00 buck) are still 3 .33 caliber balls hitting him. Now that would definetly be enough to distract the assailant for the second or two it would take to load another shell in the chamber and hit him again. That brings up the penetration issue of 00 buck. If you fired and not all the pellets hit him, which is highly likely, those pellets are now endangering your family in the next room. My choice For home defense would be a .45 handgun loaded with Extreme Shock Air Defense rounds. These particular rounds fragment on contact with any hard surface such as drywall, but if you hit him it will blow a nice big hole in him. These rounds were designed for use by air marshalls to be fired inside an airplane. That would be my choice. Check out their web page. www.extremeshockusa.com. They killed a 505lb boar with a single 9mm round. Thats proof enough for me.

This isn't bad, but, I comfort myself with my trusty 1911, 45. I want cover up to at least 25 feet. Yes, I know most deadly attacks are between 6 to 10 feet, and this gun would more than be adaquite. But, I sleep with my trusty 45.

Yes true,a .45 hand gun would be my preference, But in my country the polititions make it nearly impossible to own them and the cops try to prosecute every instance of self defense (armed or not).
I used to own a cut down shotgun (14inch barrel) & hunted wild pigs quite sucessfully with solid slug up to 50 yards and number 4 shot for everything else.... 25 inch pattern at 20 yards.
