As for myself it is the Kimber custom 2 and TRL model I have both and they shoot as sweet as they can get and the fact that Kimber will do what they have to do to keep you happy.

Probably Wilson Combat's KZ-45 Tactical Carry model......looks simple, yet modern, is somewhat lightweight and has tritium night sights.

Start with a Gold Cup, add all the great stuff available through the Brownell's catalog and there it is.

Life is short, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

AMT are nice, but they are very picking about ammo, hollow points rarely work in them. I've always loved the Springfields, but I think I'd take the Heinie custom model.

SuperObi, The AMT is an ok gun but very few custom parts are available for it. I haven't seen one in years but as I recall you have to do a lot of mods on it to add a beaver tail of just about anything else. The long slide is cool as hell but that is not enough to win me over. Go to http://experts.about.com/e/a/am/amt_hardballer.htm and read some of the reviews about it. The #1 .45, in my book is the Les Baer Para Ordinance FBI Hostage Response Team custom. It has all the goodies, 14 shots and the ultimate in reliabilty although a bit pricy. SEALs and Spec Forces have tossed the 92S in favor of the same gun. I picked one up at Quantico back in '97 or '98 and have shot the hell out of it with no problems. The frame is a bit thick with the double stack and it is a bit heavy (14 rnds weigh a lot) which is why I don't carry it every day but it is one hell of a machine.

Life is short, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

I know that the is gun is very rare(what i think is good) and that the Hardballer is not looked highly upon by gun experts or collectors but im fan of the Hitman game series series and i love the Hardballers because they look great -best looking 1911 for me(http://www.m1911.org/images/amt_hardballer.jpg)- and i know that the gun has some problems, but with some "re-machinement" the gun will be just fine.

I would give just about anything to have my father-in-laws Colt 45 auto he carried during his island hopping during WWII. He and many many of the other members of the Marine Fighting Third (Third Marine division) counted on their trusty sidearms when they jumped from Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima, as well as so many other islands and locations. I still feel a deep awe from some of the stories he told me about their first weeks on Iwo Jima. Those were heros, not that the great men and women today are not. Through his stories, and his tears, I learned exactly what honor and duty truly is. Our freedoms are a result of the sacrifices of countless hundreds of thousands of American military personnel.

I'd rather go hunting with Dick, than driving with Ted:

Anybody have experience with the Les Baer custom 1911's? Pricey, but some of them are gorgeous and I have considered collecting one or more, but wouldn't want to "collect" a piece of crap shooter.

I have always wanted a Les-Baer .45, or a Kimber. I hear that the Les-BAER is a great gun but I can't seem to get past the $2000.00/$2500.00 price tag.

I would buy the Browning M1911A1 for saveral reasones, it's the pistol My great Grampa used in WW2, My Grampa used in Korea, My Dad used in Vietnam, and it was the pistol I used during my 2nd tour in Iraq, It kinda runs in the family. The one I used in Iraq took it's share of shrapnel, it has been barried in sand, dropped countless times, and all the times I had to fall on it and not one single jam or miss fire, They take a beating.
