I don't have any personal experience with it, but the government has claimed that the reason we have had so few casualties in this war is because of advances in body armor. Ben |

Ok well try something with your buddy shoot him in the chest one with body armor then once again with out it. Armor does save lives But it only works as well as you can with it. Lets face it, there is no handkerchief that will stop a howitzer, iyou get shot but the 120mm main gun of anf M1 tank, you're prolly not gonna make it. but as far as small arms, the current generation body armor is great. But remind your budy that the chain mail he got at the renisance festival is NOT modern day armor no mater how often he puts it on then watch the lord of the rings movies and pretends hes in it |

of course Armour works but only to a certain extent, because I remember a guy being hit w/ 7.62X39 bullets from ak's and still penatrating his armour, so the gunny told everyone who wants 2 live to take it off because it weighed so much, since they already had 120LBS on their back w/o the weight of the armour, so they could hump it back to a safe LZ during the beginning of the war... |

Just like everything it's a tradeoff, does it weigh you down, but so does everything else you carry, and the fact that soldiers agree to wear body armor attests that it's advantage outweights this |

slow down buddy soldeirs dont agree to shit, that would imply a choice in the matter... We dont get to play with that much power the millitary doesnt trust us. We wear it cause were told to, but given the choice i would still wear it, ive seen it save lives. |

Hell I was watching the Military channel and they talked about special forces in Vietnam City areas would paint big bright colored smileys on their armor to attract the bullets there instead of the head. For some reason it worked. "We deal in Lead, friend." Steve Mcqueen from the Magnificent Seven. |

Just like your gun, it doesn't do shit . . . until you need it! It's all a trade off, but it will stop a damn sight more than your BDU blouse! And, lawless, does your sergeant know you're going out without your helmet!??! |

I did wear my helmet but it always seemed to go underneath it. Ive been hit in the head twice by shrapnel and it came from underneath both times. Although one time in fallujah i was hit in the chest by 5 rounds while charging a machine gun nest. We got new plates while in country and without the thicker ones i doubt id be here today. they can be heavy and cumbersome but they do save lives. the only truly worthless piece of armor is the new flaps that go over your shoulders and on your sides. the most worthless pieces of shit you will wear over there but like it was said earlier a soldier doesnt have a choice. ill post some pictures of my head sometime so you can see just where it hit. Just dumb luck i guess |

I BELIEVE BODY ARMOR CAN SAVE YOU....... AS LONG AS YOU'RE HIT IN YOUR BODY.... BUT BODY ARMOR DOESN'T STOP THE BULLET FROM PENETRATING... IT ONLY CATCHES THE BULLET..... NO GUNS, NO GLORY!!! |

DON'T BE TOO CONFIDENT IF YOU'RE WEARING A BODY ARMOR...... IF YOU'RE HIT YOU MAY SUFFER A BROKEN RIB OR MUCH WORST..... THERE ARE MANY HIGH POWERED GUNS AND AMMUNITION NOWADAYS..... THAT COULD PENETRATE AN ARMOR.... NO GUNS, NO GLORY!!! |

Without a doubt it does have it's place for sure, But there are a lot of battle field scenarios it can't be used on. Try doing an LRP in heavy scrub and mountains, when you have to carry your own supplies. |

SHIT BODY ARMOR IS ONLY GOOD FOR WHAT IT CAN STOP ! AK'S 308 NATO WITH LEV 4 MULTI HIT COPASITY . SH-- JUST UP GRADE TO 300 WIN MAG. OR 7MM MAG. 50. BUT IT SURE DOES NOT SOUND TO BAD TO HAVE. MOST OF THEM ARE USING 7.62 * 39 OR 223 . OF SOME SORT, SO IF I HAVE IT I WILL WHERE IT ! 8MM GERMAN K98 WILL TAKE MOST ANY THING DOWN . AND HOW OLD IS THAT ! |

With all the conversation about body armor it all protrays military armor. I know they sell armor in magazines such as S.W.A.T. that is supposed to be usable for self protection purposes, but, I surely cannot see its feasability in wearing it everyday for self protection. For military purposes I wouldn't be without it, as J.D. so plainly explains it. But, for those of us who are civilians now and are carrying a concealed weapon would anyone recommend any that are out there today? Or does anyone wear armor as they walk through there day? It seems heavy, for this kind of wear especially when you may never need it at the mall or grocery store. |

Armor's ability to protect is solely based upon what your enemy is shooting. It's definitely better to have it than not though. |

You know I think all your arguments, both pro and con have merit but lets not forget also the old saying about "using the right tool for the right job". In an urban or open warefare with limited walking (for lack of a better term) I'd put my hand up for plenty of armour. but not in heavy jungle or water bourne attack. Just the same you try to avoid putting an MBT onto a mountain goat track. |
