Does anyone have a good recommendation for a fairly inexpensive bolt action rifle? I'm not looking for something that will kill my shoulder, but i'm hoping for something a little more powerful than a .22 Thanks! Ben |

have you thought about the .17 hmr? smaller than a 22 but alot more powder, and insted of a round nose it is a conical shape so more range and better balistics. you can also get a rifle from damn near any company you like |

A Winchester 770 .243 would be a good choice. Not much recoil and is great for medium game hunting. They usually run about $200 |

You can get a 1903 A-3 Springfield .30-06 for about $80.00. Customize your own stock, add a bent bolt, drill it for scope mounts, factory re-blue and Voila! Expensive looking, expensive shooting cheap long range rifle. Life is short, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! |

REST IN PIECE COL.JEFF COOPER U.S.M.C.!MOLON LABE!AND MAY WE ALL TAKE LESSONS FROM REAL MEN LIKE YOU SIR!YOU WILL LIVE ON IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PATRIOTS EVERYWHERE. Go milsurp! and pick up a mauser,or an enfield. Then theres the swiss k31 that shoots better than alot of new rifles!I have an enfield carbine in 308 thats easily my favorite bolt gun ever,12 rounds of 308 and the fastest action on any bolt gun ive ever seen!Cant go wrong with milsurp rifles,a couple hundred bucks or so and you have a gun and a bunch of ammo! Some dont kick a s bad as you would think. |

Great suggestions everyone! I'm liking the price of that springfield you mentioned JD, I will definitely be checking it out. Does anyone know the prices on the enfields? I play a game called Day of Defeat and I love the Enfield in it. Ben |

Well caliber wise a .243 is the smallest you can legally hunt deer with. At least in Florida it is. If your new to shooting in general I'd go with that, it's easy on recoil and cheap enough ammo to practice with. I personally like the .308 winchester round. It's a 7.62mm round compared to a 6mm one, so it's good for hunting larger animals to. A good in between is the .280 which is 7mm. Suficent power, and recoil ain't bad. My 11 year old cousin can handle it fine. For shorter ranges, a 30-30 is a good go to gun. They are usually pretty affordable. It's my favorite for hog hunting in deep bush. As far as companies for a rifle go, Remington, Winchester and Savage are all affordable, reliable, and accurate. "We deal in Lead, friend." Steve Mcqueen from the Magnificent Seven. |

good point jack135 sir but don't count out the flat shooting cal's in open country 30-06 and 6.5x55 (.270) are great long range cal's with minimal recoil personaly bush and heavy cover 12g solids or 7.62x39 open ground 30-06 just my 2 cents worth |

No I don't, but I can point you in the right direction. Gunbroker.com is like the ebay for guns, you should be able to find one there. Any gun store around would probably have one, places like Outdoor world are good to check out. The points aren't necessary for anything paticular, they just show how much you've contributed to the site. As you get more you get promoted. They're a badge of recognition for your contribution. I have two recomendations, go down to Wal-Mart and get a Mossberge ATR-100 in .270.Or go to your local gun shop and see if they have any Lee Enfield Brittish .303s.The former goes for $250.00 and the later for about $150.00 depending on condition. Both reasonably priced and good shooters. |

Get a Enfield no4 MK1 or a no1 MK3, there cheap and powerfull but not like a 7mm, or a 444. If I can find out how to post pics of my no1 MK3. |

I recently purchased a Savage 93 in 22 mag. Nice gun, came with a scope. Only paid about $220. My son prefers the newer 17's, and also has one of the savage 93's, but in 17 I'd rather go hunting with Dick, than driving with Ted: |
