When I Carry - Should I Have Extra Ammunition?

How Much Ammo Is Too Much?

Like most questions about CCW, the answer depends on many, many factors. Things such as which gun you carry, where you live, what you'll be doing while out and about..

As a general rule, I always recommend that people have at least one reload with them, regardless of all other factors. Whether you carry a 5-shot revolver, or a 17-shot automatic, I would take at least one speed-loader for the revolver, or one extra magazine for the automatic.

I have talked to LOTS of people who started off carrying with no extra ammo, who after a while of carrying, began to feel 'naked' unless they had one extra magazine with them. Some of these people even began to carry two or even more magazines with them at all times.

I don't remember who, but I once heard someone say "You'll never leave a gunfight wishing you had brought LESS ammunition." I don't think they could have said it any better.

Can you overdo it, and carry too much ammunition? I don't see how.

Yep so true..

As long as I have a gun in my hand, I control my own destiny.
